The Role

Reporting directly to and working closely with the President, as e-Commerce Manager - Analytics and Conversion, you will be responsible for managing our e-commerce footprint, including SEO, SEM, email blasts, and the shopping cart experience, in order to acquire new customers and grow our e-commerce revenues.

  • Manage website: rotation of featured products, look, feel, and customer experience  Quick question for you - click here
  • Manage email marketing campaigns
  • Manage our blog and social media presence
  • Use Salesforce.com and Mailchimp.com to create and track campaigns
  • Communicate with office team members and address customer reported website issues
Our mission is simple: we strive to be a household name among all chefs, and want every kitchen with web access to know about our products. You’ll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on our high reaching mission and the goal posts along the way, including increasing revenue by expanding sales and maintaining margins, ensuring web shipping is a profit center, and managing web marketing ROI.

We made recent changes, for example, our website was reskinned and launched in October. That will allow you to begin with a clean palette. For the backend we're using Bigcommerce. Current web revenue is approximately $500K, and you'll put the tools in place to double that revenue this year and continue to grow it going forward. We've seen 30% growth year-over-year without making any changes, and expect a dedicated effort to escalate that growth. We have goals and objectives, naturally, but will also look to you for strong ideas and recommendations.

Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

Why Pick On Us

Best of both worlds: Though Pick On Us has a history of success spanning more than a quarter century, with its tremendous growth and expanded product line, it has the entrepreneurial feeling of a start-up. You'll also enjoy a best of both worlds environment. Pick On Us operates within the high-energy Dos Gringos facility allowing you to develop friendships and comradery across companies.

Make a strong impact: You won't be supporting the status quo or simply monitoring data. You will take ownership of the role and drive results using your knowledge, analytical skills and creativity. We'll provide clear goals and objectives and you'll steer the ship.

Help shape your role: Because this is a new role and our first fully dedicated marketing position, you'll have the chance to help design and grow it. For example, early on you'll take some customer calls regarding the website. As the website grows and our online presence becomes stronger, however, it could make more sense for you to focus on higher level tasks and bring in someone else focused on the customer service side of the website. You'll also make recommendations as to which approaches make more sense and offer a greater ROI.

Outstanding experience that can shape a career: As noted, ours is a small, start-up like environment. You'll get to wear multiple hats and focus on the full array of web analytics and conversion opportunities. You'll gain deeper and wider experience faster than you could within a marketing department where you'd be siloed and focus only on one or two areas.

Career growth: Although we can't know for sure what the future will hold, history shows that growth equals opportunity. In time, we could add others to the department, leaving you free to focus on higher level strategy or even step up to supervisory role.

Work/life balance: There's a lot to do, but we understand that the best employees also need balance in their lives. While many companies tout balance while also expecting you to put in long hours, at Pick On Us the balance is real. Most often, you'll work a Monday through Friday standard day shift.

Nice atmosphere: We are the opposite of your standard corporate setting. We enjoy a casual work environment, we have bean bag chairs (along with desks and desk chairs) in the offices where you'll often see people working on their laptops, a culture club with representatives from departments across both Dos Gringos and Pick On Us, and even an onsite gym with exercise classes! We think that after you come and visit, you'll not only be sold on the environment, you'll want to be a part of it! Perhaps the atmosphere is a good part of why we have so many long tenured employees within our facility. People like working here!

Cool and creative "green" products: We have a variety of creative, eco-friendly products (pictured throughout) that are unique and give chefs the opportunity to present their culinary creations in interesting and beautiful ways. Even our dinner wear is bamboo! Bamboo is a renewable and biodegradable resource.

Benefits and compensation: Along with your salary and the opportunity for future financial growth, we offer a comprehensive slate of benefits including health and other insurances, paid time off and more.

Keys to Success

Though not a traditional start-up, ours is a start-up atmosphere, meaning we all wear multiple hats. If you're the person we're looking for you will not only take point on high-level strategic execution, such as designing, optimizing, tracking and analyzing campaigns, you'll be just as willing to get down in the weeds to perform tactical tasks, such as adding new products and/or writing descriptions for the website, or answering calls from customers who have questions about something they've seen on the website. This is a "jack-of-all-trades" role, and as Jack you should be flexible, adaptable and able to move seamlessly between tasks. To fit with out culture you should also be friendly, energetic and passionate about your work.

Though our growth has been strong, and we believe our goals are attainable, you'll still be challenged. The space is becoming more crowded and, since our website conversion in October, we're finding we're not always top of the list anymore. It will be important for you to leverage your Google Analytics skills, make strategic choices and drive traffic and conversions so that we are optimally situated for strong growth.

You'll know you're hitting the mark if, after you’re acclimated and within your first 90 days, you:
  • Get Amazon Prime shipping turned on, or find another good option
  • Evaluate Ebay for go/no go; launch an Etsy store
  • Clean up/optimize Ad Words
  • Load new items into web store
  • Send a MailChimp e-blast
And, within your first year you:
  • Double online sales by meeting or exceeding a $1.1 million target goal
  • Manage Web Marketing ROI ($30k SEM annual budget)
  • Maintain GP margin of 60% on web sales
  • Maintain web shipping as a profit center
  • Develop a 52 week e-blast campaign / grow, manage email list
  • Manage social media, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
After the first year, you will be instrumental in developing new goals and the strategies necessary to achieving those goals.
